Former President Goodluck Jonathan expressed that the hilltop home of former Military President, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, serves as a “Mecca of sorts” for Nigerians due to his exceptional leadership qualities.

This statement was made on Sunday in Minna during a visit he led with other well-wishers to celebrate Babangida’s 84th birthday.

He characterized the former military president as a dedicated leader who has always advocated for the unity of the nation.

“Nigeria has seen many leaders since gaining independence, but Gen. Babangida distinctly stands out as someone who genuinely desires the best for the country.

“That’s why today, his residence resembles a Mecca of sorts. People frequently visit him, which speaks volumes about IBB’s character,” he remarked.

He noted that Babangida never viewed himself as a leader of a specific region, but rather as someone who championed Nigeria’s unity.

Jonathan added that the former military president will always be honored for his role in fostering national unity.

“We pray for him to have a long life so he can continue to guide the younger generation to emulate his exemplary path,” he concluded. The highlights of the modest birthday celebration included prayers and symbolic gifts from well-wishers.
