The panel will be led by Justice Abdullahi Mikhail, a high court judge, with Lawyer Bala Marika and Abubakar Salisu serving as members. Additionally, Lawyer Ibrahim Mohammed Babangida will act as the Secretary of the panel.
The Governor emphasized that the formation of this investigative panel aligns with legal provisions and urged its members to approach their task with diligence, fairness, and transparency to uncover the truth. He also assured them of his full support in executing their responsibilities.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the State, Nasiru Mu’azu, clarified that the Governor’s establishment of the panel adheres to Section 31(3) of the Niger State Local Government Law 2001 (As Amended).
The panel’s terms of reference include investigating the allegations against the suspended Chairman of the Chanchaga local government council, gathering and reviewing evidence, and ensuring that any witness testimony, whether written or oral, is made under oath or declaration, among other duties.
It is important to note that the Chairman is currently involved in ongoing court proceedings regarding his suspension and the potential impeachment initiated by his local government councillors due to allegations of misconduct and mismanagement of council funds.
The allegations were detailed in a letter dated July 28, 2025, signed by the councillors, who pointed to issues of accountability and incompetence, among other claims.
