He costs significantly more than the national economy’ – Ozat raises concerns about Osimhen’s transfer

Fenerbahce icon, Umit Ozat, has pointed out that Victor Osimhen’s permanent move to Galatasaray exceeds the financial capacity of the country.

The ex-player expressed his serious worries regarding the financial consequences of retaining the Nigerian International in Turkey.

He feels that such transactions are not suitable for Turkish clubs as they are too extravagant and not sustainable.

Galatasaray has paid a transfer fee of €75 million to Napoli, marking the highest amount ever spent by a Turkish club.

In addition, the former Lille star is set to receive an annual salary of €15 million, along with a €1 million loyalty bonus and €5 million in image rights payments.

Ozat acknowledges that Osimhen is indeed worth the investment but questions how a Turkish club can afford such a deal.

“Can you really say that signing Osimhen was a mistake? Yet, the expense is far beyond the national economy,” he remarked on SkySpor’s Youtube channel.

“I would feel the same if Fenerbahçe made a similar move. I hope they can manage the finances. Osimhen is a valuable, top-quality, and exceptional player, but for our clubs, these figures are substantial.

“I don’t envy the transfer. Such large sums of money shouldn’t be spent carelessly,” Ozat concluded.

The Nigerian forward is already training with his teammates as they gear up for the 2025-26 season, which begins later this month.
