Ipswich Town defender Leif Davis was sent out for “endangering the safety of an opponent” in a match against Arsenal, according to the Premier League. When Davis raked his studs on Bukayo Saka’s Archilles, referee Chris Kavanagh sent him out.

After Saka needed a few minutes of treatment after the challenge, he was able to get back into the game. The video assistant referee reviewed Kavanagh’s decision and upheld the red card.
A tweet from the Premier League stated: “The referee’s call of red card to Davis for serious foul play was checked and confirmed by VAR – with the challenge deemed to be endangering the safety of an opponent.”
Thanks to Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli, Ipswich were already down two goals when Davis was handed the marching orders.
While analyzing the game for BBC Radio 5 Live, former Arsenal defender Matt Upson deemed Davis’ tackle on Saka as “very poor” after checking it out on replay. The red card makes perfect sense when you dissect that tackle, he added. It’s incredibly deliberate.
