The rescued individuals were presented to Gov. Alia at the Old Banquet Hall, located in the Government House, Makurdi.

These victims, originating from five different states—Benue (3), Enugu (1), Taraba (3), Cross River (2), and Ebonyi (2)—were taken captive by bandits operating in the Sankera region of the state.

Their release was made possible through a collaborative effort involving the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Police Force, the Civil Defence Corps, and other members of the Joint Task Force.

Governor Alia expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the security agencies and personnel who played a role in the rescue mission.

He characterized the victims’ experiences as traumatic and distressing, yet commended their strength in overcoming such terror.

“It’s truly a horrifying ordeal. You have endured significant trauma, but thankfully, a successful operation was conducted in the Sankera area, leading to your rescue.

“We extend our thanks to the DSS, the State Police Command, Civil Defence, and all members of the joint task force who contributed to this success.

“This serves as proof of dedication and ongoing sacrifice. Many of these operatives are actively working in the field, and we all must do our part,” he stated.
